Ich hab mich sehr gefreut, dass Matthias Westerweller aka Weller mit großartigen Singles im Gepäck nach Wien gekommen und der Einladung zu Lost In Music nachgekommen ist.
Wahrscheinlich hört man jenseits der Grenzen Frankfurts über Matthias Westerweller in seiner Funktion als Discjockey, also über WELLER, recht wenig. Was damit zusammenhängen mag, dass sein Stil, nach eigener Aussage, »nicht festgelegt genug ist, um überregional oder international gebucht zu werden«.
Das ist schade für die anderen, gut für Frankfurt.
Bei Aussagen, wie »Der weiß überhaupt nicht, wie viele Leute er in Frankfurt in ihrer musikalischen Sozialisation beeinflusst hat«, oder auch »Wenn Weller auflegt, dann schaffe ich es meistens nicht wegzukommen, bevor er die letzte Platte gespielt hat - lost in music eben«, wird schon deutlicher, dass er unter vielen der etwas andere DJ ist.

Er möchte an den Plattenspielern »groovy« und »soulful« sein, und vernehmlich beherrscht er nebenbei auch genau das, was er an anderen DJs schätzt, nämlich, »eine Stimmung aufzubauen, eine musikalische Reise zu veranstalten, einfach spannende Zusammenhänge herzustellen«.

Fred P aka Black Jazz Consortium has been involved with music since childhood.
Growing up in Flatbush Brooklyn Fred has been exposed to a wide variety of music such as the R&B/Funk and Rock and Roll of the 70’s, Electro/Hip-Hop, Reggae and Disco of the early 80’s as well as House music of the mid-80’s early 90’s.

This has been the soundtrack playing in the back ground of his life past to present. Since Fred has started his own imprint Soul People Music/Earth Tones. The future is bright for Fred P as he continues to record.

RA - Resident Advisor developed from a local fan-page into an important opinion leader. I like the topics they are covering and the taste of visitors and editorial stuff is excellent. They voted Dj Sprinkles "Midtown 120 Blues" album of the year 2009 - we wrote about this release earlier on this blog - it definitely is brilliant.
Their weekly Podcast is more often than not good - but especially the one from last week deserves to be mentioned here. If you are a regular reader or listener from our shows you'll know that Lost In Music appreciates the output from Michel Baumann aka Soulphiction and his label Philpot (which takes its name from Larry Levan's real surname).
And again the Mix he deliveres for RA sees Baumann channel his twenty years of DJing experience into an irresistibly rolling melodic house mix that balances the exclusives with plenty of vintage classics.

I was so curious when i first read that there will be a new "old" Prefab Sprout Album out soon. Now that it has been released i have to share at least one track with you. I can't tell how much i admire Paddy McAloon for his approach to music. Here you can find an interview about the album "Let's change the world with music".
The album was shelved after an A&R meeting when doubts were expressed about whether the world was ready for a concept album with references to God. What seems utterly ridiculous from the remove of two decades is that the album is actually so sleek, smart and beautifully distilled, you wonder how anyone could have doubted its worth.
Furthermore we have two guest mixes in the show - one from italian disco edit kings Super Value and the second one from Floating Points out of London. Their track "Love me like this" was a Lost In Music favourite this summer.

This Album is so so good. My favourite electronic music release 2009 so far.
A hugely recommended piece of music.

A masterpiece of serenely melancholy and sublime deep house crafted with the skill and dedication of someone who you can truly believe lived this music at that time.
Tinkling pianos that seem to be submerged in water, airy flutes and a number of monologues dot the record. The most notable of the latter occurs on the first track of the record in which a voice tells us "There must be a hundred records with voiceovers asking 'what is house?' The answer is always some greeting card bullshit about life, love, happiness." ...

This is the rhythm of empty midtown dancefloors resonating with the difficulties of transgendered sex work, black market hormones, drug & alcohol addiction, racism, gender & sexual crises, unemployment, and censorship.
